Video of the Day

Saw this tour back in 1993.  High as a kite.  "Come Talk to Me" opened the show.  When the phone booth emerged, my brain exploded.

Great stuff--is that Paula Cole throwing off the Kate Bush vibe?

I saw Gabriel at the UB gym on the So tour; definitely one of the best concerts ever. Where has he been lately?

Yes, that is indeed Paula Cole. She backed PG on that tour before breaking her own solo career. Sinead O'Connor sang backup on the studio version.

I saw the So tour in Toronto at the old CNE Stadium. Liked the Secret World Live show in Rochester better because the venue -- Rochester War Memorial -- was smaller, very up close & personal. It was a lot like the old Buffalo Aud without the Orange level added.

Also saw Pete in Cleveland about 5 or 6 years ago - the 'Up' tour. The Blind Boys of Alabama opened up and also joined PG during the main event. Highlights included Pete rolling around in a giant inflatable ball like a pudgy, bald, singing hamster. Very little old material.

Seewagen came in for that show and we did the on-site seat upgrade, going from end-zone corner to center-ice, 5 rows up (in the round, stage center). Probably about 50 feet from the stage. Great show though nowhere near sold-out.

Still doing his thing I guess. Just not as 'Big Time' as he used to be...

That UB show was great because, even though I wasn't a huge Gabriel fan, I was blown away by his intensity, and I was standing about 20 feet from the front of the stage the whole time. Also, one of his African backup singers/dancers was shaking it so hard that her boobs came out of her top, repeatedly.

I also saw the Blind Boys--they opened for Tom Petty at UNLV about 10 years ago. I understand the whole roots thing, but they kind of sucked because they were way out of place in that huge arena (for this one, I was up in the seats on the opposite end from the stage). For that matter, Petty's show wasn't so great either--I have really come to dislike those big arena shows. At least now, being older, most of the acts that I want to see are past their peak popularity, so I can see them up close.
